Wendy Moten - Come In Out of The Rain

Heard Wendy Moten's Come In Out of The Rain over the radio last wkend. Was really gripped by the song and her vocals.... Tried searching for it over soundbuzz but they only had the version by another female vocalist.... was very disappointed. Fortunately i happend to chance upon Youtube and found the MTV for this song there.... *yippie* =P

Was reading some comments posted on the YouTube and realised that this song was not a big hit.... was really surpised to hear this coz i feel that with her good vocals and the nice melody of the song, it has the makings of a hit.....

Someone also commented that she sounded like Whitney Houston. I agree with the person to some extent coz i feel that Wendy Moten's voice is slightly higher and less overwhelming than Whiteny Houston but it does come across strong and clear =P

It is really sad that a good singer with potential did not make it big.... but i guess this is the reality of the music industry.... in this current era of pop idols, attitude rythms and bubblegum tunes, good touching songs are really hard to come by .... Wendy Moten's Come In Out of the Rain is one of the classics which will stay on my list of favourites..

World Vision - Sponsor a Child Programme

Was reading the papers a few days ago when i came across this article about Jerry Yan Cheng Xu being the World Vision Asian Regional Child Sponsorship 2007. Juz surfed throught the website to find out more about child sponsorship. The monthly sponsorship is $45 per mth. Really feel like signing up for this sponsorship programme becoz i think it is a good cause to help the less fortunate children around the world. Though $45 per mth may seem small but it may help them in small little ways. But i dun think it is possible to do so now coz my mum will not be in favour of this..... well have to see how things go before taking the next step.

Bought another 2 songs from Soundbuzz

Just bought another 2 songs from the "Michael Feinstein sings the Hugh Martin Songbook" album: "The Two of Us" and "Finale Janette/When Does This Feeling Go Away?". The first song "The Two of Us" is actually a duet with Hugh Martin himself.....

I tried searching for this album but could not find it in any of the major music store...perhaps michael feinstein is not very popular here and the album was released in 1995 that is why it couldn't be found in S'pore.

Initially i did not want to buy the songs from soundbuzz becoz it can only be played on the computer which the files were downloaded but i can't stop myself from doing so. The songs by Hugh Martin are so perky and witty and Michael Feinstein delievered a fine rendition of his songs.

Listening to Hugh Martin songs made me realise something, apart from Andrew Lloyd Webber, there are many composers/lyricist out there who write brilliant musicals. However, sad to say, our local exposure to musicals are very limited and what we get to hear and buy is restricted to those by andrew lloyd webber and to some extent the more popular Rodger's and Hammerstein musicals such as Sound of Music, The King and I.

Hopefully, the musical genre, like jazz, can one day gain popularity and foothold with the general masses....

Broadway Musicals

Well i first came in contact with Broadway musicals when i was back in polytechnic. Was surfing the Internet when i chanced upon a website on broadway musicals. The website owner seemed to be an avid broadway fan. Every week, songs from a new musical will be posted on the website.....the musicals ranged from the more common ones such as "Phantom of the Opera", "Sunset Boulevard", "Sound of Music", "My Fair Lady" to the lesser known ones like the "Scarlet Pimpernel", "Once Upon a Mattress", "Annie Get Your Gun".

I realised I like the perky tune and witty lyrics of the broadway musicals. There is this special tune or arrangement to broadway music which i really enjoy listening to. Listening to this tunes lift my spirits when i feel down ..... perhaps i have a penchance for the American Songbooks, that is why i also like jazz apart from Broadway.

"My Fair Lady" is coming to town in Jan 2007, but still struggling as to whether should i catch it coz the tickets are quite pricey. The lowest end cost $48, however, there is a 20% discount for HSBC cardmember..... But after discount and ticket charges, it comes up to $40.... have to give it more thoughts before deciding.....

ISORG Test 1

On Thurday we had our first ISORG test. Although it was an open book test but did not really know how to answer the question. Felt that i did not have enough knowledge and understanding to do the question.

But Jack Koh was quite flexible, he allowed our to copy the question and email him the ansers by 20 Nov. Actually i think the flexiblity is good for part-time student like us, coz we dun really have the time to study and prepare for the test. Rather than write rubbish for the next 1 hour, it is good to let us go home and work through the answer. This will help us gain a better understanding.

However, felt a bit of sympathy for him, coz 80% of the class left after copying down the question. Actually I wanted to leave too but since he was my "saviour" ("jiu ming en ren") for our PPRJ back in SP, I decided to give him face and sit through the test. However, I did not hand up the test paper, instead i told him i will send him my answer via email.

Well have to start on it soon coz the dateline is on Monday...... =( Still have to 2 other assignments to do, 1 for ISORG and the other for Marketing.... very afraid that i will bust the dateline again.....

But nvm...... keeping fingers crossed and see how things goes.... =)

Connecticut - Michael Feinstein

Was browsing through soundbuzz earlier this evening to buy Michael Buble's "Come Fly With Me" and happen to chance upon Michael Feinstein's ablums. This first time i heard Michael Feinstein was over the radio back then in the mid 90s during a wkend jazz programme called "Jazz Club" on Symphony 92.4 hosted by Dominic Tan.

Michael Feinstein's voice is very smooth and velvety, which suits best for sing ballads, broadway and jazz. This quality in his voice gives his songs an extra feel of sexiness and smoothness. Bought this song called Connecticut (written by Hugh Martin). This song is very perky and it reminds of Broadway. Michael Feinstein delivered the song smoothly and it is really worth the money.

I am really quite confused, I dun understand why do I dread going to work so much.My colleagues are rather nice people and my job is not too stressful so there is really nothng for me to complain about. However, I really do not feel happy in this job..... can't really put a finger to why I am experiencing this type of emotions but I juz know I dun feel very happy......

Well I guess I have to let nature takes it course and leave it in the hands of God and see how things go........ It is almost time to go sleep though i dread the morning that comes...... Nitez....
